Mip

Mip BIO

Mip is a multi-instrumentalist rocker who writes genre smashing songs about her life observations and experiences. Her sound is “raw and wild” (Roots Music Canada) like her dynamic stage performances where she dives deep into the soul of each song she sings.

In 2009, Mip flew into the Big Smoke alone with a suitcase and 2 guitars determined to prove that a small town kid from Smithers BC could show the city a thing or two about rock’n’roll. Within less than a year she had formed the Mip Power Trio – a high energy pop, rock, and folk experience that is hailed by loyal fans as Toronto’s best kept secret.

With the Mip Power Trio, Mip has independently recorded and released two albums: Haggard & Bedraggled (2013) and Half Pint Full Heart (2015). The band is currently working on a self-produced EP with a single to be released in late 2019. Coinciding with this release Mip is also taking steps to release her first solo works.

From dingy dive bars to remote festivals, Mip has a rich performance history including 3 Western Canadian Tours with the Mip Power Trio and a variety of gigs independently or in collaboration with other artists. Some notable shows to date include Edge of the World Festival (Tlell BC), Midsummer Music Festival (Smithers BC), ArtsWells Festival (Wells BC), and the Opera House (Toronto ON). In September 2019 Mip also made her debut as an international touring artist when she traveled to Eutin, Germany to back-up Toronto vocal powerhouse Chloe Watkinson.

While Mip spends the majority of time on her own musical endeavors, one can also find her performing a variety of instruments as part of The Supervoids (bass/vox/drums), the Mark Perry Band (vox/bass), Chloe Watkinson (vox/guitar/kick-drum), and the Bluenatics (vox/bass). Rest assured, no matter where you see Mip, you will be met with an infectious musical presence that will draw you in and keep you there with her.

What They Say

“Mip is one of the most promising artists I’ve seen in a long time.”

– Anthony Greene, Owner, The Dakota Tavern, Toronto, ON

“The Mip Power Trio are a secret weapon any venue or promoter should be ecstatic to have. Energetic stage presence, riffs and grooves that will make any toe tap and lyrics that turn the mundane into sing-along earworms that resonate with anyone. Make sure to take notes as Mip is the kind of songwriting and band leader that should be a staple in Canada’s current music scene.”

– Myles Anthony Lacroix, Talent Booker & Sound Engineer, C’est What?, Toronto, ON

“The music was raw and wild, filled with power and driving grooves. MIP certainly got the upstairs hall bouncing and raring to go into the night.”

-Michelle Footz, Roots Music Canada

“The first thing that stands out on this album is Mip’s voice. She has quite the vocal range and her style, while being distinct, reminds me of Janis Joplin…[the Mip power trio has] certainly created their own sound…a sound that encompasses the spirit of the album: energy and good times.”

-Joey Beaudin, Bucket List Music Reviews Blog

“With tight musicianship, strong lead vocals and sweet harmonies driving the music, coupled with the band’s fun, casual party vibe, I dare you to not move your feet…”

– Cathy McKim, Life With More Cowbell Blog

“well-rounded…smart music that’s weird in all the right ways…Mip Power Trio has established themselves as a force to be reckoned with.”

– Kirsty Chan, Greyowl Point

“..truly at home on this stage…Mip mixes stripped down rock n roll with folk elements and a hint of everything from country to blues…The lyrics are clever yet understated; the melodies are catchy and filled with energy. There are no gimmicks here, just great narrative storytelling that is sure to lift the spirits.”

– Tanya Natapov, Canadian Content Machine

“Hard-working TO rock ‘n’ roll threesome have a spunky take on things, with lead guitar Mip the star of the show.”

– Chris Young, Toronto Star

“The lyrics…are witty, cutting, astute and quirky enough to keep you interested and the melodies are so dynamic and insanely catchy that your toes will ache from tapping them.”

– Sheila Wujek, AW Music Blog (HypeMachine Blog)

I recognize with respect and gratitude that, in Smithers, the land on which I live, work and play is the unceded traditional territory of the Gidimt'en Clan and the Wet’suwet’en people. em>
